5 Things From a 90's Kids' Childhood

1. Richard E. Scary Books and Cartoon
This is probably one of every child from the 90's favorite memories when they can actually think that far back. The stories were simple and easy to follow yet often taught a lesson or just made a child think. More so what most likely stuck with a person is probably the art work. Hotdog cars, wacky buildings, animals dressed as people, YES, these books and even the cartoon could be completely enamouring at times.

2. The Years of Sequals and Prequals
Disney spent quite a bit of time and money creating sequels and prequels to all the great movies of the past. Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and so on were all turned into epic collections. Eventually some even made it to the Disney channel via tv shows. Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Timon and Pumba, Tarzan, are just a few to name. These Characters will always be a staple in a 90's Kids' life, they are often used in clothing design and jewelry.

3. Goosebumps Tv show and Chapterbooks
Often forbidden in the homes of youngsters was Goosebumps. I grew up in one of those forbidden homes, and luckily so. The one episode I ever snuck watching as a little one ended up being about a clown that drooled blue and made every one else into blue drooling clown zombies. I am terrified of clowns so that was probably the worst possible episode to start off with. Later on maybe in 2 years I remember the chapter books being in the library, and picking up just one became like an addiction. Goosebumps made "Are you Afraid of the Dark" look like child's play.

4. The Last Stand of the 5 and Dime store
Do you remember taking a nice stroll down the block in the summer and picking up a refreshing snapple, a chocolate bar and a deli sandwich at the corner store for less than 5 dollars? I do! I loved 5 and Dime corner stores. Where I grew up they were a staple of the community until 2000's when everything just seemed to go out of business or sell out to larger cooperation's. I would love it if my kids could have that experience of saving up a little change from helping someone out or from their school lunch and being able to spend that saved cash on a delicious and affordable treat. But hey, today its not even safe to let them take a walk down the street unsupervised.

5. Brittney Spears
I don't care who you are, or what kind of music you were into growing up, if you were a 90's kid you know Brittney Spears. You just hear that voice and know its her and can probably even break out the words to a song or two. I still find myself singing along to "stronger"

  1. What about the Spice Girls? Or NSync? Or how about Backstreet Boys? Hanson? The Peaches song? (Peaches come from a can, they were put there by a man, in a factory down tooooowwwwwnnn)

Those were all a HUGE part of my childhood. Same goes for Doug, RugRats, Clarissa Explains It All, Salute Your Shorts, Pete and Pete... best of television, I tells ya!
